The firing of Eric Johnson is a cowardly act with immense consequences. It reveals a trajectory of narrow thought and a policing of research and practice that goes far beyond a Seminary's mandate.

I am deeply disturbed by this action. Eric Johnson is a much respected leader in the field of Christian Psychology and Counseling and his speaking and writing have helped many to stay faithful to Scripture. Richard Winter. Dr. Johnson is respected by all who are Christian and work in these fields. The apparent approach offered against Dr. Johnson is anti-science and makes it very difficult for the non-Christian world to pay serious attention to this position. It further marginalizes Christians and is intellectually indefensible.

I am saddened and outraged by this decision. Eric Johnson has done more than anyone to develop a truly Christian psychology that is thoroughly shaped by Biblical teachings and principles. Since most of psychology is very secular this was both brave and faithful of Eric. It is unbelievable that he would be attacked by people who claim to be Christian for standing firm for Christ. If this decision stands I will absolutely advise anyone to stay away from SBTS. C. Years ago I was involved in a dissertation research Dr. Johnson co-directed. He was a man who did his utmost for His highest. Dr. Johnson’s opposition group seems to be the kind that chases people away from the church.

So very saddened and discouraged that SBTS leadership would make such a terrible decision. Dr. Johnson has proven to be a loving, wise, and humble leader in my life over the last seven years. As a pastor, Dr. Johnson's influence on me is experienced every time I meet with a church member related to soul care matters (and every time I preach for that matter), and I know my church is the better for it. I've read every page of "Foundations for Soul Care" and "God and Soul Care." Both books are strongly orthodox and both make compelling cases for Christian Psychology. Dr. Johnson holds fully to the Abstract of Principles and the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, including the doctrine of biblical inerrancy. Furthermore, his life is above reproach, and there hasn't even been moral accusations made against him. So on what legitimate grounds is he being terminated from the faculty? God, help us. God, help SBTS.

SBTS grad, 2010. Dr. Johnson was by far the most influential professor I had while at SBTS. I believe this is a remarkable loss to the SBTS community, and I am so grateful for the privilege I had to study under him.

Always amazing that when it comes to physical health such as diabetes, we are all for seeing a doctor, taking medicine, seeking counsel and praying for recovery. But when it comes to mental health, which include congrenital chemical and physiological disorders, we skip straight to words and prayer, but somehow think heaven forbids medicine. May those behind this decision seek an open heart to learn what their closed minds have hidden from them.
