Whilst I appreciate that there have to be regulations in any sport, I do not believe that the numbering of players shirts has to be that rigid as to prevent a club honouring a fallen player by retiring their player number in their memory.

They should respect the wishes of the club and supporters of AFC Rushden & Diamonds.. Even though a new club its still dear to them!

Not involved with the club in the slightest. Just think it's wrong what decision has been made and he should be respected! RIP

Absolutely pathetic by the SL. Maybe they should understand that some things are just more important that football.

Not allowed to say f..k..g joke so I won't. Please those who administer the SL the are times in life when common sense should & must be allowed to override "the rules" either that or push your heads further into the sand and leave your arses exposed for a kicking.

I support AFC Wimbledon, and we were in the same league as R&D when Dale Roberts died. I remember well how hard it hit the Rushden supporters at the time. This is a ridiculous ruling, and one I suspect the Football or National Leagues would not enforce.

The wearing of the No1 was retired after Dale Roberts death as a mark of respect and should remain retired
