The league should respect the retirement of the number 1 shirt at AFC R&D. A young and talented footballer with a bright future tragically lost his life and the retirement of the number is a small gesture that the club can continue to make in honour of this and as such should be respected.

So long as the number is visible does it matter what it is? Maximum.of 2 digits is fair enough though.

This is an act of respect, regardless Rushden should be allowed to assign there players whatever numbers they like

A bit of compassion please dale was always the number 1 an always will be what the club does is out of respect for a top quality guy r.i.p dale

Why can't AFC Rushden retire the number 1 shirt? Only recently F1 retired a number due to a death, Basketball and Baseball retire shirts. Its not harming or upsetting anyone in football that Rushden keeper wears a 17 shirt. Keep this wonderful tribute going.

Show some respect! It is old fashioned to have goalies in no 1! Outfield players no longer wear number designated shirts! Set a precedent for the club and a memorial to this young man!
