no other competition has denied AFC Rushden & Diamonds from using the number 17 for their starting 'keeper.
The number 1 was retired as a mark of respect for a life tragically cut short.

It obviously means so much to the club, therefore it should be allowed. Many big teams play with odd numbers on the field of play on match day, why at lower league is there such a strict code of practice?

I cannot understand why this League won't permit this. It is a simple, compassionate request to respectfully mark Dale's contribution to the Club as well as his passing. He should still be playing. UCL accepted this without question, which is the correct and proper response. Come on SLB, do the right thing!

It is silly in this day and age to not allow a club to honor a player in this way, the numbers on the back are numbers and you need to get with modern times and realize it doesn't matter about having 1-11 any more and by giving squad numbers it affords clubs the opportunity to market their players and honor players who have made significant contribution.

This is typical of the way football is run by business now and is no longer about the fans and followers or even about the players. There can ALWAYS be exceptions made in special circumstances. Let them keep their tradition!

Remove the red tape for crying out loud. Nothing is achieved by this ruling except Evo Stik officials appearing as heartless bureaucratic idiots.

A young keeper whose untimely and unfortunate passing should be honoured with dignity and respect. Please allow the #1 shirt to be retired. Luton Town fan in peace

I've played since u15s for AFR R&D where #1 is not worn throughout the academy to show respect, if the first team cannot show their respects it is insulting to the club
