Premier League clubs are allowed to retire shirts for players who have sadly passed away so why shouldn't a non league club be allowed to do the same.

As a Weymouth fc supporter I fully agree with AFC Rushden and diamonds request that the number 1 shirt is retired.

No compassion for the man, his family or other sufferers of depression. A disgrace.

The Southern League need to be fair and reasonable for something like this. It's a highly unusual and possibly a one off request, so please show some compassion on this occasion.

Pure stupidity, 1st - R&D have made a reasonable request to retire the number 1 shirt. 2nd - when you think about the prem/football leagues, you have squad numbers, so a goalkeeper can wear any number on his back. 3. If/when the progress to conference south level, then I believe they can go to squad numbers anyway. 4. ok so squad numbers haven't reached that level (yest), but does it really make that much of a difference to the game? Would R&D get any advantage if the goalkeeper wears a shirt with the number 17 on it? (I can't see that giving the goalkeeper any super powers , though I could be wrong!) Come on Southern League, stop making yourselves look like a bunch of bureaucratic, uncaring jobsworths, and just allow this one exception to your rulebook

Respect. The League should show some instead of being pig headed and stubborn.

What a stupid decision. The FA are pushing a respect campaign, well let's respect a football clubs decision to honour one of its own.

Show some respect, if it was one of top teams it wouldn't be an issue. Nearly corrupt as FIFA. RIP NO.1 Dale Roberts

What difference does it make if he has a different number on his shirt? I am sure the opposition will recognise he is getting keeper because of the different colour of his jersey not the number on his back. Luton fan opposing this stupid unnecessary and downright disrespectful position.
