There are plenty of precedents of retired shirt numbers at all levels of football, and globally. So, why is this such an issue for the Southern League?

Respect the club and the supports of this club and allow the shirt to stay retired

Can't believe this has turned into an issue. A simple act of memorial for a cracking youg lad that died in tragic circumstances.

To respect the memory of a fine young man, and the views and wishes of his club and supporters I urge to re think your decision not to retire the no 1 shirt.

Other teams and indeed other sports have "retired" numbers, so why can`t you be allowed to also ? F1 has recently "retired" the number 17 in memory of Jules Bianchi. Not too difficult is it. This needs to be done in memory of Dale Roberts.

There are always vacant numbers... why should 1 have to be used? Please rescind this pointless rule.

As an ex-diamonds goalkeeper myself I'd like to join everyone in saying let common sense prevail and allow the keeper to wear 17. We preach respect in football and this is showing a lack of respect for a person taken too soon.

It was my understanding That if a shirt was retired no one used that number again
This is a disgrace
Time to make a stand
