I hunt suffolk county at least once a week during the archery season. As hunting goes, it's very difficult to harvest deer w a bow even if there's an over abundance of deer isn the area. Now because it's difficult for a hunter to legally harvest deer, the govt wants to hire snipers to use high powered rifles to do the job? I'm forced to use a bow and bow only but when the govt sais there weren't enough deer harvested, they can hire snipers to use rifles?? Are these snipers required to purchase licenses like we did? I can't use a rifle but they can? It's not right

Let the hunters enjoy the sport and give deer respect.

Does it bother anyone else that deer are being viewed as pest? A pest is a non native non indigenous specie. Our deer ought to be respected and harvested in the most humane ethical manner. Only a conservationist can be entrusted with this task.

Why not let the hunters who live here in Suffolk County, who enjoy venison and hunting solve the deer problem.

With more and more Suffolk county parklands NO HUNTING signs going up every year its a wonder the herd is increasing. The state and county are offering sanctuaries for deer and will cull the population from land we have access to hunt. The DEC doesn't manage OUR wildlife based on biology, but on politics and money. The wildlife belongs to US and WE are the ones who should decide how its managed

DEC also shut down weekend hunting in Montauk on some of their spots to accommodate whale watcher (really). This area has the most accidents in all of Long Island , and how much money do these whale watchers contribute to the state?

There are better more cost effetive ways to handle this. Let the Hunters hunt longer

DEC's way of managing deer hunting on Long Island is counter productive. Their method used at the check station puts hunters in the woods to late and forces them out to early, reducing their success. They should eliminate these check stations and the overhead cost and just mark the spots and let adults figure out how to shot deer.

DEC has posted signs in stores that sell feed that feeding deer can spread diseases that can wipe out complete deer herds, but are now going to let the Feds bait????? And this year they eliminated either sex tags you receive after bring in deer to check stations. Why would you reduce tags for any reason in area so over populated with deer unless to prove a point that hunters are not getting the job done.

Not to mention the dangers of "Federal Sharp Shooters" with RIFLES among wooded housing. Also, we hunters know the distances deer can run once shot. Who will track and recover the deer? I doubt the shooter will.

No more special permits given by lottery anyone with a license should be allowed to hunt
