Petition Against Professor Brian Harper's Mechanical Engineering 3671: Machine Elements 2 Course

The purpose of this petition is to call attention to the miss-management of Ohio State Professor Brian Harper's Mechanical Engineering 3671: Machine Elements 2 course. Professor Harper is guilty for the arbitrary grading of exams, inaccuracy of his notes, and his inflexibility to hear complaints that make it difficult to excel in his course. His most recent offense and main reason for this call for attention is surrounding his November 17th exam. Professor Harper was angered by all the questions about and arguments against the grading of his previous exam so he decided to lash out at students by making the November 17th exam multiple choice instead of explaining his reasoning behind the scoring of the exam, which he openly admitted in lecture was purely out of spite. Making his exam multiple choice in this math based course dramatically increased the difficulty of our exam by increasing the penalty for minor errors and as stated before he changed the format of our class not to more accurately test our understanding of the course but to spite us because a number of students tried to contest the grading of the previous exam. Professor Harper also created an exam that was unreasonably long for the 55 minute time window allowed for this exam, of which we were only given approximately 45 to 50 minutes due to professor Harper showing up late to the exam period. It is this kind of unprofessional behavior that makes it near impossible to excel in an already challenging course and has caused the students of this class to protest the unprofessional method in which professor Harper runs hiscourse.

Harper does show very little interest in his student's success. I could read off of a power point and do problems if I had the solutions in front of me too.
Terrible professor
Although some of you did very well on the last exam (several people made 100) the scores overall were very low so I have decided to give an opportunity to improve. I'll give an optional final on the date and time of the regularly scheduled final exam. There will be three parts to the final, one for each of the three exams. You can do any two of the three parts in order to improve your scores on two of the three exams. You can also do just one part and leave after 55 minutes. If you score better than your previous score then I will replace the old score with the new. If you do worse I'll average the two. The exam will be multiple choice but I will allow a certain portion of partial credit for clearly presented work showing a good understanding of the problem.
Well, I will give a low SEI for Harper.
I think we can ask for a second chance of taking the third exam, or ask him to curve up our final grade.
He needs to reply email! It's hard to communicate with him.
It's not too much to ask a professor to do his job professionally

Harper does not interest in his student's success.He should put more energy in his teaching. Also, the average for this midterm is only 50, which was pretty low. I do not think that reflect the reality of how students know the material.For his lecture, he just read the ppt, which is helpless to us.
