Petition Against Mandatory Winter Uniform Requirements

We, the undersigned students, respectfully submit this petition to express our concerns regarding the recent notice mandating the compulsory wearing of the college uniform along with sweater, blazer, and tie.

While we fully respect the institution’s intent to maintain discipline and uniformity, we believe this particular requirement raises several practical and financial concerns that deserve reconsideration:

  1. Limited Winter Duration
With winter nearly over and only a few weeks remaining, especially for third-year students, purchasing an entire set of winter uniform (sweater and blazer) for such a short duration is neither practical nor reasonable.
  2. Financial Burden on Students
The additional cost of college-specific sweaters, blazers, and ties places an unnecessary financial burden on students and their families, many of whom may already be managing tuition fees, accommodation, and other academic expenses.
  3. Lack of Flexibility
Making winter-specific attire compulsory does not account for varying weather conditions, individual health needs, or students commuting long distances. A flexible dress guideline would better accommodate these factors.
  4. Academic Focus Over Appearance
Strict enforcement of winter uniforms may lead to undue stress and disciplinary issues, diverting attention away from academics, projects, internships, and placements - especially for senior students.
  5. Sustainability and Practicality
Encouraging students to purchase clothing that will be used for only a brief period goes against principles of sustainability and responsible consumption.

We respectfully request the administration to reconsider this decision and allow flexibility - such as making winter uniforms optional, relaxing enforcement for final- and third-year students, or permitting non-college winter wear that meets basic decency and safety standards.

We hope the administration will take these genuine concerns into account and arrive at a student-friendly solution through constructive dialogue.

Thank you for your time and understanding.
