No one complains when they dropped the rates... No one complains when they regularly cancel... When they want a petty uniform that's when ppl complain.. Clearly we seem to be a bunch of collective idiots..academically bright and that's as far as it goes.. Those idiots that take lower rates you individually are destroying locuming and you alone are bringing down the rates by devaluing our profession.. Other factors we can not dictate but the one we could idiots are destroying... Back to the point the uniform is a joke.. They r hardly goin to send you home if you turn up in ur own clothes... Screw em..

I do not locum for boots optician any more, as I found the company managers and some of the staff very annoyingً. Despite they claim about best customer care, they are only interested in sale and nothing more. If you are a good optometrist and care about poeple you would have hard time juggling between poor and slow screening, pushing to sell expensive glasses and photos. I had very bad experience working for the as a locum. They under pay and takes long time to get your money. They cancel you with a short notice. Staff normally are not friendly and helpful. Worse boots store to work in armanchester city centre, and Stockport ( boots). They give the booking agent false negative comments if you come across some of nasty staff . Now supervising a pre reg that you do not know, this horrible uniform , low fees, should be added too.

I presume the idea is that this new image makes us look more "clinical" but it should be optional. Personally I find that White Coats scare a lot of kids and so can be a liability in practice as I prefer not to upset my patients. This should be optional and Boots should provide it without charge to those locums who wish to wear it. I'm not interested and would opt out of any future work for Boots if they impose this hideous garment on us.

Lower rates, last minute cancellation, supervising pre-reg, reduced testing times, annoying managers that interfere with your clinical decision making, support staff that take longer to pre-screen than the actual testing times! And now a uniform that we have to fund, to look like bunch of beauty therapist rather than primary eye care professionals. I have worked in few lovely clinics-majority old D&a. The rest make me so angry. I certainly won't be buying the uniform and they won't be cancelling a clinic if I turn up in my Armani suit :p

no surprises here. I chose to boycott them a few years ago and i have never looked back. there are some boots stores that really struggle to get locum cover because of there attitude. together with this petition we should make a firm resolution DO NOT LOCUM FOR BOOTS UNTIL THEY RESOLVE ALL ISSUES REGARDING CANCELLATIONS & THIS STUPID UNIFORM

Absolutely ridiculous!! The person who thought up this idea has probably never worked in practice before. I honestly thought that this was some sort of April fools joke!...£5 sight tests... over-running form filling/pre-screening by untrained staff... reduced testing times... trying to reduce locum rates... cancelling bookings at the very last minute... and now asking US to pay for hideous uniforms!!... what's next? - making us wear plano lenses in Boots own branded frames?! Come on fellow professional lets finally put an end to these corporate bullying tactics. If they are going to force this upon us, I definitely wont be working for them in future.

I actually feel that Boots, in their quest to make everyone
appear the same, have actually questioned locums professional
standing. I for one pride myself on my appearance along with my clinical skills. Patients are interested in clinical expertise not zombie like uniform. It may also have escaped the powers that be's attention that unlike employed staff, locums have no locker facilities and nowhere to change into this garb. In most branches there is never an invite to use the staff room or any niceity at all. Do they expect us to change in the carpark or the toilet or in an unlocked consulting room! I find it all very insulting of the company.

On what planet do Boots think that cheap polyester workwear will create a better customer impression when compared to a bespoke Saville Row suit?

As is the case in the hospital eye service, patients feel comfortable knowing clinical members of staff wear business dress, and this differentiates them from other colleagues. The Boots focus group clearly haven't looked at their bizarre uniform choice, as it looks cheap, unprofessional and unflattering.

Us employed optoms hate the straightjacket as well. Presume the 'locums too' rule is because Boots are rapidly running out of employed qualified staff due to their ill-conceived ideas, such as this one which , by the way are not done with the consultation of the staff and customers..not in our region, at any rate.
