The Movement for Accountability on Campus (MOFAC) has learnt, with grief, the clandestine move by the Executive Committee of the SRC to secure a Ghc35, 000 commercial loan to pre-finance the organization of next year's Face of GIJ pageant.

This decision, we believe, is not in the best interest of students. This is because there are no assurances on how and when the loan would be paid. There is also very little information about the interest rate, collateral and other important factors that go into securing a loan.

It is our belief that failure to pay this loan would mean that subsequent SRC administrations would be saddled with debts. This will have crippling consequences on their operations.

In order to prevent the Executive Committee from going ahead with this ill-conceived agreement, we urge the entire student body to make their voices heard by endorsing a 1,000-signatories petition calling on the Executive Committee to cease its intentions forthwith.

This is the time when the Student Body needs to make its voice heard in decision making. We must not sit aloof and watch things go wrong.

Why should a handful of students impose a decision on us when most of us are against it?

Let's take a stand against incompetence. Let's stand with good governance.

Signed

Salia Muawiah

Convener, MOFAC

I am honestly still reeling from the messages people are sending me about how this loan choice ignores our actual student interests. It feels like they truly think we will just stay quiet while they gamble with our future dues but they are dead wrong. I have been spending my nights digging through old financial records just to see if this is even legal because silence from the administration is starting to feel like a confession of total chaos.

I object to the loan. Its absurd. Y would we waste 3500 on someone just to go abroad whiles this money can be used for important educational purposes like filling our empty library with current books.

I think that is not what gij needs. The SRC should do something that will benefit all students but not a selected student. What benefit will the school derive or the students derive after the person had gone there? If we still wants to borrow then we should use the money wisely and not in this way.

The loan absurd because at the end of the day it is us the who are going to pay and some of us see the peagent useless. They should rather think of how to provide aid for student to pay their fees and not the peagent which only a few would benefit.

Total rubbish. Who should come and pay for u. You will end up billing us for src dues cos of loan on some unnecessary pageantry. Is this a journalism school or a modeling agency. I'm totally not in favor of that loan thing

The reasons for collecting the said loan is irrelevant It is the student body who will suffer the payment of the loan when this government (madugu government) is no more

I don't really understand the SRC executives, how can you go in for this sum of money for a beauty pageant without paying heed to the GA reps. I strongly say NO to this policy. No loan for face of GIJ

I think this loan move is very ill and uncalled for ....it shows how irresponsible our SRC executives are and depicts their interest they have in creating looting and sharing .....they are a disgrace to Student leadership.
