Final supporters
If passed undergraduate students would foot a 10% increase starting 6/1/15, followed by another 10% increase on 6/1/16. Current: 176$
proposed 6/15: $195
proposed 6/16: $215
For reference:
UMKC supplemental: 185.70
UM-Colunmbia supplemental: $70
As proposed by the Dean, this increase would be to maintain competitive faculty salary, in addition to providing new lab equipment, more simulation modules, and simulation upkeep.
Unfortunately this cost increase will not benefit us!!
1. The current clinical cohorts will graduate before money has been raised to install and maintain new simulator facilities.
2. The increase results in a total of $3000 more over the course of the clinical track.
3. One argument used for the increase was to compared our tuition to private university costs, however many of us chose to go to UMSL because of the affordable cost.
4. Even if new equipment and simulators was purchased/implemented immediately, the nights and weekends program already experiences limited lab time, so our access to additional resources could very well be limited as well!
An increase of 20% is significant and substantial, and is inconsistent with previous years 2-3% increase. It will place an unforeseen burden on the students currently in the program.
We, the undersigned, are concerned UMSL College of Nursing Students who urge Dean Susan Dean-Baar and the UM Curators to STOP BALANCING THE COLLEGE OF NURSING BUDGET ON THE BACKS OF THE STUDENTS!

I have been staring at the tuition comparison charts again and it really makes no sense why we are being pushed toward private school pricing when that is the exact opposite of why most of us picked this program in the first place. My inbox is filling up with people sharing their own stories about the financial strain this puts on them and honestly reading through those notes keeps me awake at night because the math just does not work for so many of us.

I really did not think this would gain so much traction when I started typing on my laptop late at night but here we are and it is honestly wild to see how many people feel the exact same way about these absurd costs. Seeing everyone pile on to vent about the lab time and the tuition burden makes me feel like maybe they actually have to listen to us now because it is just too many people to ignore.

There are other ways to meet expenses, other than having students bear the brunt of it. I am an alumni, and I would like to see UMSL stay competitive instead of pricing itself out of the market.
increasing the fee will only reduce the number of students to come through UMSL's nursing program. This program is already seeing a deficit, why make it even worse.
We are already paying enough as it is. I have so many student loans right now, I will be in debt for a while if you add more.
We shouldn't have to pay for the financial mismanagement of those above us. The problem was obviously put off until the last minute by the supposedly more responsible ones and we get the bill for it..
This is a public university and as such, fees should be somewhat affordable! It already costs $40,000 for two and a half years of the nursing program. This fee increase will put the nursing career out of the grasp of many students. We cannot afford to have good nursing students drop out because they can't afford the fees!
Fee is not justified.

Soon only the wealthy will be able to attend college. The cost is keeping many young people out. Don't do this.
