I want to see regulations in the grooming industry. The National Dog Groomers Association of America is an organization that wants to keep self regulating/ self policing, but they do nothing other than take membership dues. The box store grooming at Petco and Petsmart are also self regulated within the companies, and do not take action to make licensing and oversight a priority. I cannot stand idly by and watch more improper practices, and terrible outcomes (pets harmed and mistreated during the grooming process) by big box stores tarnish the history of professional grooming as a whole. Over the years, stories of dog ears being cut off and glued back on, dogs dying from overheating in archaic dryer cages, dogs being beaten or improperly handled). There are groomers from a generation that have tried to show how grooming is a true professional trade with passion and empathy for animals that is being thwarted without oversight. While Petco/Petsmart are neglectful in their training and managing of the grooming process, they cover themselves by saying they have certified groomers, but they are certified "in house" after a few weeks of training. It is wrong. There is no oversight/regulations even at the very least like there are for people hair stylists/manicurists. I want to see a law created and passed to ensure oversight and regulation in the grooming industry.
