I am a current resident of Chicago, IL and reside in the 3rd Ward. I would like Permit Parking to be added to 23rd St between Michigan Ave. and South Indiana Ave on both North and South sides of the street.

Reasoning: I am concerned about the safety of the community as many patrons of the local bar find easy parking on this street and return to their cars intoxicated at which time fights break out or patrons drive away intoxicated. Further it is often the case that these patrons create a disturbance on the street creating an unsafe noisy dirty (litter) environment. It is my wish to extend Zone Permit #1676 which is currently on 23rd West of Michigan Ave. to include the block that is East of Michigan Ave. Their is ample pay parking on Michigan Ave which is much better lit with more traffic to increase safety. Local pay lots can absorb any additional parking needs and receive additional revenue for these vehicles, while at the same time monitoring car owners safety by refusing to give keys or calling the police when a driver drives intoxicated. Further residents would feel safer and sleep better at night with less drunken behavior in the neighborhood. It is in the best interest of everyone in the community from local stores, bars, restaurants, clubs, and residents to create a safe environment to live, work, and play. While I don't believe adding zones parking will solve for all these problems I do think it will help make our community safer.
