We, Brazilian concurrent enrollment students from the Science Without Borders program, currently at University of California at Berkeley, petition to reconsider the decision of excluding the student Rigel Bezerra de Melo from the Brazilian Science Without Borders Program.

Rigel sent out the required probation document late, but it was officially stated that he overcame the expectations of his internship at Microsoft Company last summer. This shows that he portrays a huge potential at his field of study. This will be very important for the main goal of the Science Without Borders Program, which is to foster a better country of qualified professionals.

He is a great student and an outstanding professional, as verified through his past academic performance in Brazil, and deserves another chance. It is only one last semester and he undoubtedly makes a difference in our lives. Furthermore, all of his academic expenses have already been paid by the international sponsor, IIE, and they are currently non-refundable.

Now, he has all the documents required to allow him to stay, showing his great interest in staying here in the United States until the end of his program, which is in December 21st.

We demand that Rigel stays in the Science Without Borders Program until the end, because he is passionate about his accomplishments and committed to the future of our country.
