Pepperdine University School of Law Community in Opposition to the Invitation of Justice Thomas to the School of Law Dinner

I believe that us as a student body should have been given the proper platform to weigh in on this matter before the choice was even made. The fact that this had to occur after the fact and in social media just makes it even more disappointing. I would like to thank my fellow 2019 classmates for your leadership!

I’m disappointed that this decision was made without students. That the prestige of having a Supreme Court Justice took priority over the wellbeing of students on campus who may have experienced sexual harassment or assault.

While it is a great honor to have a Supreme Court Justice attend a Pepperdine event, the attendance of Justice Thomas showcases a sacrifice of Pepperdine’s core values for prestige.

I’m very disappointed with the administration’s decision to host Justice Thomas, particularly in light of his wife’s inappropriate lobbying efforts of the Trump administration and the increased awareness of issues of sexual assault. I understand the desire to place graduates in clerkships on the Supreme Court, but I hope that issues of right and wrong still take priority. M
