I am fighting to get many laws changed for people with a felony background. There are so many things that we are restricted from that hinders is from thriving in society. With a felony you are not eligible for most decent places to live, jobs, any type of state approved certifications, carrying a weapon even though many states are now open carry and even school field trips with your children. I’m am hoping to make some changes with this petition. I believe that there should be a time limit that certain felonies can be held against you. I think that in many cases proof of reform should be considered and applied to what the person is trying to do or obtain. In areas such as trying to obtain certain licenses and certifications there should be a time limit that the felony can be held against you as well as the opportunity to prove yourself fit for the situation. It should also be considered when being able to carry a gun. In open carry states and with crime being so high, how are we supposed to protect ourselves. Is the mistakes we’ve made so great that our lives don’t matter? Do we not have a right to be able to defend ourselves? We are husbands, wives, sons and daughters, our lives should be no less important than anyone else. We should have the ability to not have to answer to the name felon for the rest of our lives. We deserve a decent place to live, good jobs, the right to spend time with our children on field trips and to protect ourselves. I’m sure many of you have someone that is effected by this in one way or another. I believe that we all make mistakes some get caught and some don’t. I believe that we should all pay for our mistakes as well but when is it paid in full? We still have to pay taxes and be productive citizens but we are hindered in so many ways. Please help me get some changes made so that we may keep the prison population low and allow the rehabilitation process to happen.
