Having lived on the Winnebago reservation many years ago my heart is troubled by the disgrace aimed at native Americans. I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Colombia in the sixties and thought I would never see such poverty and neglect again. It's hidden away right here in the USA.

I think it is about time to free an innocent man. Doing otherwise would be a shame and add further discredit to the american system of justice.

I was in jr high school when Leonard went to prison and I've seen a lot of injustice in our country since then. And now 40 years later Leonard is still imprisoned by a government that cannot produce any evidence against him. It's like they just picked him out of a crowd. Dear President Obama: Leonard Peltier has been illegally jailed since I was a young woman and you were a young man. While in prison, he has missed participating in most of his family's lives, he has endured illness, sadness and loss from behind bars that SHOULD NOT be separating him from those life events. As he ages, his illness becomes harder to manage. More family members pass. His situation becomes more untenable and the unfairness of it becomes more and more evident. At the very least, he has suffered several constitutional violations. The most horrendous thing is that he had been jailed and there is no evidence that he committed the crime he is accused of. There are no credible witnesses. Testimony had been recanted and proven false. I grew up here in Plymouth, MA, and have attended the Native Americans' Day of Mourning Ceremony for about a decade now. I have heard first hand the pleas of his friends and family to return him to their arms. I'm asking you to please consider granting him executive clemency before he either passes or is left with no living family members, to put his arms around. Thank you.

fact is this native man has been imprisoned for many years for a crime he did not commit. I am looking at the judicial system and senator,governor,president and politician to do the right thing,and make the correction of the bad choice you've made when you sentenced Leonard Peltier.

For the first time someone told me that they were killed by their own. By other FBI agents. Now I'm more confused than ever as to why this man has lost over 40yrs. of his life for a crime he did not commit. I've never heard Robert Robideau or Darrell Butler or even John Trudell ever say anything even remotely like this, not in any interviews I've heard or read. I knew that Leonard was there by invitation because there were a lot of unsolved murders and drive-by shootings on the reservation or so I've read over & over again. He was invited into the reservation to help try to "assert some tradition" Wasn't he at Calvin Jumping Bull's, because that was the AIM headquarters wasn't it? & Then there's that stupid story about Jimmy Eagle stealing a pair of cowboy boots after a fight, & those two FBI agents following him onto the reservation or at least they thought it was Jimmy so they were in pursuit." They just wanted to talk to Jimmy Eagle about the fight & the boots" so they pursued a car assuming it was him right into AIM headquarters. Why would two FBI agents even do that? I have never been able to understand why they would go onto a reservation with no warrants over a pair of boot..& now I'm hearing that they were shot by other FBI agents? And what about Mr X? That would be Harry David Hill, yes? The LPDC spokesperson. Didn't he claim to shoot the two FBI agents but now has refuted his claim? I just don't understand how this innocent man could just have his whole adult life stolen away from him over something he didn't do & he still sits there every single day hoping against hope that whoever gets in that seat of power will grant him clemency. It just,..makes me sick inside.

Dear Barack Obama I think it's time to free an innocent man from prison so he can spend time with family & loved ones in the time that he still has on this Earth. It's time that the howling wind of injustice finally dies down and that the sun of justice will start shining again ever so brightly. Please take action to free Leonard Peltier from prison so that the injustice that has been done is put right. It's the right thing to do and the only thing to do. Thank you!

Mr. Obama, I'm respectfully asking you to please review the case of Leonard Peltier, I'm sure all of it is available to you, Wikipedia has all you would need to know, once you've read it and take into account the ceaseless efforts of a former United States Attorney General Ramsey Clark who served pro bono as one of Peltier's lawyers plus the fact that the FBI needed a scapegoat to hang the murders on, pressured so called witnesses who later recanted their stories and revealed the tactics used by the FBI to obtain those false statements. At the very least he deserves a real trial at which all of the evidence can be revealed which would result in his being found innocent in the murders of the two FBI agents. The power to simply release him based on all that has come to pass, the recanting of witnesses who were pressured to lie, the evidence which shows that it was not the AR-15, which Peltier claims he didn't own to begin with, but is the one they used as evidence against him anyway and which was later determined to not match the shell casing found in the car of the FBI agents. So, I'm only asking you to please look at all of the evidence and I believe you will come to the same conclusion that many others have and that is that Leonard Peltier was/is not guilty of the murder of the two FBI agents. I can understand your not wanting to do it until just before you leave office and I can only pray that Leonard will make it till then, his health is deteriorating, not being allowed to return him to a prison closer to his family is leaving him bereft of the love and comfort which most inmates have to help get them thru the prison life and it is being used as a form of punishment to Leonard. I voted for you twice because I believe that you are someone who is a fair and honest man, someone who can take into account the views of everyone and make the right choices which, in spite of the Republicans efforts to block these choices, you have done so. Ther was no justice in the governments action. I grew up in Minneapolis, and had the opportunity to meet Russell Means when the AIM document was signed and became a MOVEMENT. First of all our constitution is based on innocence before guilt, the federal government was embarrassed by the fact that they did not have a definitive shooter for the agents that were shot. They had to blame someone, so they took most of an innocent man's life to make someone pay.

We should not still be asking this. Things have to be made right.Drug dealers are being released at a high rate back into our communities from Federal Prison. Those were outrageous sentences and a great waste of tax dollars. Mr. Peltier is only being held out of spite. Clemency is way overdue! Bill Clinton should have pardoned him before he left office. Instead he commuted sentences for people such as David Ronald Chandler, a federal death row inmate, Bob Griffin, a former speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives Who was serving two years on bribery charges, Melvin J Reynolds, democratic congressman from Illinois convicted a bank fraud and obstruction of justice, Carlos Vignali, convicted of cocaine trafficking. In all 192 commuted sentences or out right pardons and Leonard Peltier was never mentioned once. Shame on you Bill Clinton, I hope Barack Obama has more guts than you did!

To be honest the case of Mr Peltier was brought to my attention thanks to the band Rage Against The Machine and i then obtained the book 'In the spirit of Crazy Horse' which introduced me to the American Indian Movement. My mother surprised me with naming a few famous actors who were supporters of the AIM. The more i've researched the group and this particular case the more i truly think that the FBI went after the movement because they were threatened by it's numbers and support. As usual they created a scenario and it blew up in their faces when 2 of the dickheads got wasted. There had to be a scapegoat and it was Mr Peltier. I am a youth minister who spent 6 years involved in Native American ministry on reservations and cities in NE and SD, including work for peace and justice on Pine Ridge. I am highly concerned both for the evidence of injustices in Leonard's original trial, and of the immediate health complications and lack of care he is experiencing in prison. There is no conclusive evidence that Mr. Peltier committed acts of murder. Ballistics studies were withheld from the trial - which is nothing short of pinning the blame on an innocent man and allowing scapegoating to overrule justice!

He is innocent and was convicted under false pretenses! Peltier is receiving unfair treatment in prison, serving 40 years based on a sentence of proven coerced testimony. His original prosecutor(James Reynolds) has called out for his clemency after receiving more accurate evidence. He has managed to continue philanthropic programs even behind bars. Please let this innocent political prisoner go home so he can receive proper medical care and have a quality end to his tortured life.
