Modification to Park City School District’s Schedule Spring Break
There is a significant population within the School District that has either one or both parents working within the resort industry in Park City. These families have someone working in the lodging, restaurant, retail, real estate, ski resort and other tourism based industries.
When spring break is scheduled prior to the scheduled closing dates for all three resorts it requires these families to find alternative care options for their children, many times at a great expense to allow the parents to work. Some families are unable to find affordable resources thereby leaving their children unattended during this time.
As Park City’s summer visitation continues to grow the downtime for those in the tourism based industries dwindles. If spring break was scheduled after the resorts close it would provide time for parents to spend time with their families.
We understand that in the past the resorts have extended their season. This decision is made after the School District’s calendar is set and we understand that would be difficult to reschedule Spring Break in this scenario.
We ask the Park City School Board consider amending their policy of scheduling spring break to include a statement that the break will occur after the scheduled close of all three resorts.

The momentum behind this shift in our school calendar is building because families are finally speaking up about the reality of working in this town. Post this link on your social media channels today to ensure the school board sees our demand for a policy change. Text three neighbors who work in the resorts and tell them to sign this immediately.

Makes total sense. Align the school calendar with the actual town economy.
LONG OVERDUE. The current timing is brutal for us in the restaurant industry.
PLEASE fix this. My kids are home alone half the week because we are both working and cant take those days off.
The current schedule just doesnt work for half the families in this town. Hope the board listens.
This is an idea that is long over due. Late April is the last vestige of shoulder and "mud season" in our increasingly busy resort economy. While the School district is considering grade alignment, spring break scheduling should be reconsidered.
I think It would be a good idea to change spring break.
