As a teacher in DPS, I see the hard work that our classified staff does on a daily basis. They are the first to arrive on campus in the mornings and the last to leave at night. They often are overlooked in the fight for educational funding, but we would not be able to run our schools without them.

Our dedicated classified staff is essential to the work of supporting students in Durham Public Schools. The County Commission's decision was an insult to DPS and an embarrassment to Durham. They can and must do more for our staff and students.

Fair wages for our school workers includes raises to match standard-of-living increases. A 3% raise barely begins to close a monstrous gap that starves our bus drivers and cafeteria workers. It's the least Durham can do.
