We call on our senators and representatives to pass efficient legislation on those who may purchase assault rifles in the state of Texas. We are protesting against gun violence and advocating for more proper gun reform. An assault rifle that can fire dozens of bullets a minute should not be in the hands of anybody with the vicious intentions, especially at eighteen years old.

Teachers must not be armed with firearms, but rather with the education of firearm safety and consequences of improper use of guns. More education on how to deal with bullying and/or mental illness without resorting to violence needs to be added to the curriculum. The more resources and education there is, the safer the society and environment.

The amount of training required to acquire a gun license is 4-6 hours, which 75% of those hours may be completed online. This is clearly not enough, and with the mass amount of gun violence in this country as a whole, there definitively needs to be more training and education required so the applicants are properly informed on what these firearms should be used for: to protect, not to massacre innocent people.

We, the undersigned, urge those in office to pass legislation on who may have access to assault rifles. The time is now. Thousands of people have been killed at the hand of guns, and it doesn't have to happen anymore.

Numerous letters have been written to those who serve us in the Texas government. If you wish, you may view it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p-_Hxsjhn7FBri...

I have been busy drafting follow-up letters to our representatives based on the concerns you all have shared in the comments. It is truly humbling to see so many people committed to this, and this momentum belongs entirely to the folks who keep showing up.

We all have blood on our hands if we don't do something to stop the travesty of mass shootings in this country that's only getting worse!

Enough is enough. My kids should be able to go to school without us worrying if they come home or not. Texas needs to wake up.

Totally agree. 6 hours of training is a joke for a weapon like that. change is way overdue.

We need to feel at home, not afraid. No one need a machine gun for protection.
