I am a USMC Vietnam Veteran of Irish heritage. I was moved by the story of Patrick " Bob " Gallagher who was killed in action for his adapted country . I believe the US Navy should give serious consideration to naming a new vessel after Patrick .

I've been privileged to know some of the friends of Irishmen from County Mayo who emigrated to USA and served their adopted country with distinction.
From Mayo, I emigrated to Canada, and consider these fellow countrymen my comrades.

I respectfully request that the Secretary of the Navy direct that a DDG class ship scheduled to be procured in or after 2017, be named in honor of Corporal Patrick "Bob" Gallagher, USMC, Navy Cross, of Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, Ireland (KIA ~ Da Nang 1967)

This would be a fitting recognition of the sacrifice Bob and other young Irish men made in service for the US in Vietnam. A selfless hero something that's so scarce nowadays may he rest in peace.
