Thank you Rodney for your impassioned support, a good reminder that over the 3,500+ Medals of Honor awarded, over 700 recipients were foreigners, and of them, the largest contingent from a single country 240+ were from Ireland.

Thank you for your support Carmel, and for remembering Michael and his family that lost him from their lives. It is important for us all to remember the 3,000+ Irish that served in Viet Nam and the 31 that did not return.

I respectfully request that the Secretary of the Navy name a DDG class ship after Corporal Patrick Gallagher. To do so honors his memory, as well as the other 30 or so men who left Ireland and laid down their lives for America during the Vietnam War. I ask this in memory of Michael Smith, native of County Cavan, Ireland, who also lost his life in Vietnam.

The Irish have contributed to the success of theses United States the military being one of them. Naming a Destroyer after the hero Patrick Gallagher would be a wonderful way to remember all the Irish who have served in the military over the years.

I believe he followed the greatest tradition of the U.S.M.C in a willingness to lay down his life for his comrades and his name on a Navy ship would be a fitting tribute to his service and sacrifice.

My brother Emmett Noonan also served in Vietnam with the USMC, my parents were both from Tipperary, Ireland. My brother was one of the very lucky ones who came home from Vietnam.

I respectfully request that the Secretary of the Navy direct that a DDG class ship scheduled to be procured in or after 2017, be named in honor of Corporal Patrick "Bob" Gallagher, USMC, Navy Cross, of Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, Ireland (KIA ~ Da Nang 1967)

This man is a hero. Others have received the Congressional Medel of honor for doing the same thing (falling on a granade).
