James, when we researched Patrick's background we saw a reference to a story written by Irish journalist & biographer Patsy McGarry that we included in the bio page. I have not found a direct link to Mr McGarry's story but he could be reached via his current position with the Irish Times, mediacontacts.ie lists his email as [email protected]

This man and his story epitomizes the spirit and traditions of this great country and specifically our Armed Forces. Additionally, it underlines our deep friendship with the great nation of Ireland. It would be wonderful to see this petition granted!!!

A big thumbs up to Marius Donnelly of Dallas for putting this website together.
I hope all that sign it can get an additional two people to sign, the numbers will continue by using this multiplier effect.
I would not have what I have now If it wasn't for people like Patrick Gallagher.

I am very pleased to be associated with this petition. Patrick hailed from my own home county of Mayo ....about 12 miles from where I live. The bonds between our two islands are unique and lasting. This is a truly worthy cause and I commend those who are behind it.

This would go a long way to show our support to the men and women that come to this country and support her even more than 80% men and women born here.

As a niece of Patrick 'Bob' Gallagher, this would be a great honour and I know all his family would be so proud of him and something he and they deserve for what they went through and a great way to honour his life.

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Secretary of the Navy name DDG117, or a subsequent DDG class ship scheduled to be procured in 2017, to be named after Corporal Patrick "Bob" Gallagher, USMC, Navy Cross, of Ballyhuanis, Co. Mayo, Ireland (KIA ~ Da Nang 1967)
This request is in keeping with the traditional naming conventions of naming Destroyers (DDG) after U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corp., or U.S. Coast Guard heroes, and this would coincide appropriately with the 50th year anniversary of Patrick's death in action.
