SUCCESS! The USS Gallagher was officially named this morning!

The United States Navy would honor all Irish who have served this country by naming a DDG class ship after Corporal Patrick "Bob" Gallagher, USMC who was awarded the Navy Cross for his heroic actions.

My father was a Marine in WWII, my brother served on the USS America during the Vietnam War, my two sons are currently in the Navy, one is a fighter pilot and the other is a Petty Officer. Our family knows all too well of the dreaded official death notice that could be received. Patrick Gallagher is a true hero whose selfless courage, above and beyond the call of duty, is an inspiration for all. I sincerely urge the Secretary of the Navy to recognize this remarkable hero by naming a Destroyer ship in his honor. I am also proud to mention that I am a third generation Irish American whose family came from Belmullet, County Mayo, Ireland.

i am from Ballyhaunis too & would love to see Ballyhaunis'born US marine and a war hero in Vietnam, deserved a warship named after him. By the way I visited Vietnam in 2013 & people there said they're not bitter with the USA now. USS PATRICK GALLAGHER.....
