I was born in co mayo and live in Sydney Australia and have heard of Patrick Gallagher & think it would be a great honour to name the ship after him.what a brave man he was & showed his fighting mayo & irish spirit. des smyth from Ballina co mayo.

Ships are named presidents, admirals and politicians. Rarely do we honor the lower ranks, especially the Navy and Marine forces on the ground. Naming this ship in honor of Patrick recognizes Patrick for his sacrifice, the Marines for their sacrifice and Ireland.

As a Viet Nam veteran myself I applaud the servvice of Bob Gallagher. Our Viet Nam vets were not well received on returning home but in Corporal Gallagher's case there is an opportunity to make it right this time. Give him this recognition he deserves, Mr. Secretary.
