A great honour for a U.S. Naval Vessel to be named after a decorated Irish hero serving as a U.S. Marine Cpl.Patrick ' Bob ' Gallagher who gave the ultimate sacrifice of his life in Vietnam in 1967. For being awarded the Navy Cross while serving in the U.S.M.C. I hope he will be remembered in a very special way so fellow Marines and Sailors will see his name on their ship as they will serve with pride..

Naming the DDG117, or a subsequent DDG class ship in honor of Patrick Gallagher would be an appropriate recognition to both Patrick and the thousands of immigrants, past and present, who serve our country selflessly.

My grandfather was in the US Navy and his grandmother also came from the Ballyhaunis area. I would consider it an honor to see one of our ships pay tribute to Cpl. Gallagher.
