To all Modern Warfare 2 players,

Please take a second to help convince IW to patch MW2 so normal gameplay without hackers can be restored.

<<Original Post from "http://www.infinityward.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=371760">>

Sony has recently acknowledged a breach in security on the PS3 which resulted in games to become exposed to exploits and hacks. Modern Warfare 2 is no exception to this security exploit and we understand that some of you have experienced problems with stats and other issues associated with this.

Games rely on the security of the encryption on the platforms they're played on, therefore; updates to the game through patches will not resolve this problem, unless the security exploit itself is resolved on the platform. Regretfully, Call of Duty games are receiving the bulk of the hacker's attention, due to its high player counts and popularity. However, the number of legitimate players severely outweighs the bad apples.

If you are concerned about playing with players who are hacking, I encourage you to play exclusively with friends by utilizing the party or private match options in Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty 4 to avoid such players as much as possible until this issue is resolved by Sony.

At this time, we do not have the ability to restore or adjust individual stats.

Let me assure you, while we are very reliant on Sony updating their firmware and security to address the core problem of this issue. We are looking at EVERY option available to us to help any user affected.

This only applies to legacy games such as Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2. In the future we plan to adjust our approach to not rely solely on platform security and reduce the ability for this to happen in our games, as has already been displayed by the work Treyarch has done on Call of Duty: Black Ops to prevent similar measures.

<<My Post>>

Infinity Ward // Activision,

The best-selling game of all time on ps3 is now more broken than ever. As of Jan. 15, 2011, it is more difficult to join a lobby of any game type without the host having a hacked patch on their console. Yes, it is true.. the hackers (who by the way miraculously always seem to be selected as host) have taken over.

You claim this is a breach of security concerning the console but that is only partially true. The method these hackers took to have the ability to:

1. Unlock all challenges in the game for any player // Reset all challenges && leaderboard stats for any player
2. Enable invincibility, invisibility, and an advanced aimbot
3. Toggle superspeed, superjump, teleport players to fixed points etc. etc. etc.

Originally, they "jailbroke" their console which enabled them to install a ftp transfer utility where they gained access to overwrite the current valid patch for MW2 with a custom patch downloaded from the net.

Now for some questions, how did the original hacker(s) gain access to the source code of your patches & why wasn't it encrypted? And the biggest point I would like to make is DO NOT deny that releasing another patch couldn't correct the problem, it may only be a temporary fix if you simply release the same patch in place of a new one however, as of right now and to my knowledge the exploit to jailbreak a ps3 has been resolved per any FW after 3.41. So it seems Sony did their job now it's time for IW to take corrective measures.

I have purchased 2 ps3's, 2 copies of MW2, and over a dozen controllers since MW2 has been released. I have never even played the campaign, strictly multiplayer and even further strictly Search and Destroy. I can assure you that if you choose to simply pretend as if this problem isn't MAJOR, I will never purchase another IW title again.

You profited from this title a great deal, please be responsible and take measure to correct this issue. I have faith in you.

Sincerely,
An IW fan since the beginning (screw Treyarch)
