Dr. Maen Husein of the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering has been teaching at the University of Calgary for several years. He has contributed many publications and his efforts to the university and has been known as an outstanding researcher. However, Dr. Husein has not been known to be a "good" professor. Ideally, a professor should be able to teach his lecture material to his students and give a sense of confidence to the student that they can pass their courses. A professor is not legally allowed to punish or fail a student based on the professor's mistakes, discrimination, etc. Dr. Husein is clearly exhibiting signs of intentional failure of students by refusing to release previous final material, giving vague solutions to those who request help, replying to student's emails that does not contribute or resolve the request and/or question stated in the email, and assess students of their knowledge by using difficult quizzes that make up a majority of the grade in the course. A student should not fear failing their courses because their professor made mistakes. If you sign this petition, your voice will be heard by the Dean of the Schulich School of Engineering where a possible short-term and long-term solution can be made to resolve this issue.
