We, the undersigned educators and school staff of the schools at 1595
Bathgate Avenue in the Bronx, respectfully request that you assist us in
resolving a very challenging situation regarding parking near our school
building. It has become so difficult to park, that if we do not arrive at
school before 7:00am, then we are either in a position where we have to move
the car for alternate side parking (while we should be working) or pay
$8.00/day for using a lot (which also fills up quickly). Both of these options
are not mere inconveniences, but hardships. In addition to the three
schools in our building, there are several schools along Third Avenue and all
of us compete for very few available parking spots.
There
are several possible solutions to this: Allow
educators and school staff to park perpendicularly on the sidewalk the way
police officers are allowed to do at their precincts.
Change
the street cleaning hours in the area to be identical to the hours on Park
Avenue where is is no parking midnight to 3:00am on Wednesday and
Saturday. If this is not possible, at least reduce street cleaning to
once a week rather than twice.
Free
up more streets for parking in the area, for example on 174th Street between
Washington and Bathgate, where no parking is allowed.
The daily grind of fighting for a spot before dawn is exhausting for all of us. I have been reaching out to local offices to find a path forward even though the progress feels slow right now. Please keep reading these stories because they prove that our frustration is real and it deserves an answer.

it is getting impossible to find a spot anywhere near bathgate. 7am is way too early to be fighting for parking just to get to my classroom.

The lot prices are killing my paycheck. We need better options for staff parking in the bronx.

I am one of the teachers that pays for parking, monthly, to avoid being late to work, or having to move my car in the middle of the school day. This is, indeed, an undue financial burden on me, and I wholeheartedly support this petition.
