Final supporters
Anyone who has ever been a student at College of the Canyon knows that the biggest problem with the campus is its parking. Countless times I have arrived at the campus 40 - 50 minutes early JUST to find a parking spot and to not find one at all or find one after my class has already begun.
90% of teachers say that tardiness will not be tolerated but the parking situation is one of the biggest reasons why students are tardy. It is unfair that we have to drive around aimlessly looking for a space just to be late to class and then get marked tardy.
College of the Canyons is supposedly "one of the best community colleges in Southern California if not the country." Then why is something so simple so hard to find on this campus. Other times they have film crews and trailers in the parking lots filming a movie or tv show and they block off that entire lot just for them. If you block off an entire lot, that's about 100 - 200 cars that cannot park there. That's a lot of students.
My proposal is that College of the Canyons makes it their next priority that they begin to build a parking garage SOMEWHERE around the Valencia campus. It might not be able to be used by the current generation of students but it can be used by a future generation and they will not take it for granted.

I spent another thirty minutes circling the lot today and saw a film crew truck hogging prime spots while I ended up late for my quiz again. People are reaching out to tell me their own horror stories about missing midterms and it confirms that we are all just exhausted by this carousel of circling for spaces.

Seeing all these people feeling the exact same daily parking panic is honestly kind of wild because I thought I was just cursed for a long time. People are actually listening now so maybe we can finally stop circling these lots like vultures and get someone in charge to look at a blueprint.

I arrived well about an hour early--still could not find a parking space. One car drove off from where they were parked--which was at a "no-parking" space, which could have accommodated three more parking spaces, and it would not have been an obstruction to traffic either. I decided to park there after aimless circling for fifty minutes (else I'd have missed a quiz in-class that cannot be made-up). Unfortunately for me, as I returned back from class, a hefty $35 charge laid waiting for me on my car's window. Ahahaha. Good game, well played, COC.
When who ever it was designing the school, had a pretty good idea on the max amount of students as well as staff personel it would have on any given day,well I think the genius got his math wrong when adding the same amount of parking spaces to accommodate those students and staff. Stop adding more class rooms unless your going to add adequate parking.
Even for handicapped people, it is very had to find parking! I have a placard and still had to drive around for a while to find parking :/
I was almost 40 minutes late to my class yesterday because I had to drive around looking for parking and I got to the campus 30 minutes before class started. I had to park on a residential street and walk a half mile to my class. It's not okay that we have to deal with this issue. The amount of students that go to COC out grew the number of parking spots that are provided for us a very long time ago. It's time to do something about it.
If students are sold parking passes, there ought to be spots for them to park! Sometimes students wait or drive around for over an hour for a spot! We have busy lives and cannot schedule extra hours for the day for such things especially with jobs and dependents. For the school to act ethically on this matter it absolutely must either make parking free, make enough parking for all students, or enroll less students so this does not happen. The obvious choice between the three is more parking, but you decide which.
Parking was bad , 20 years ago , and it's even worse now for my son.
The students deserve more parking, the stress of finding a parking spot takes away from their learning ability and their work life as they have to get to school 2 hours before class . They should be able to build a parking structure with the fees from all the parking tickets they write.

I suggest boiken y put it by Aliso and boiken hall and have it connect to the buildings and the lot 13. They can have one level dedicated to staff and the rest student parking. Maybe as incentives students with high GPA can buy a reserved parking pass or something as well. Either way it will save parking on the other lots because teachers and staff have to park in the same location as students half the time.
