Parking on Randalls Way for Highbury Drive Residents

Hi all, I am one of two directors for Highbury drive and I don't recall this issue being raised at residents meetings before. For those people who are visitors I agree local parking is not good but the estate could not cater for an unknown number of guests in the building plans. For those people with two cars, well done for affording that, but again, the estate cannot cater for parking for over two hundred car parking spaces in case people can afford two cars. The initial problem of 'other' people (commuters etc) parking in Highbury drive and blocking the road (causing access problems for emergency vehicles) was solved with the no parking policy in the estate road, the problem of people parking on the corner of Randalls road and Randalls way restricting the entrance and causing a a serious hazard was also solved by concrete bollards. All of this costs money which comes out of the maintenance fees. Although I would love to see more spaces (apart from using local car parks) I don't see an easy solution. If a residents permit system was set up, who would run it, monitor it and enforce it? Any costs would need to be borne by the estate and added to annual maintence, but again, if I have one car would I have to contribute to the running of the scheme? If there are 40 people who have two cars are they prepared to fund the whole scheme? There are numerous questions and if enough residents feel strongly about this matter then GCS will chair a meeting in the Police Federation to come to some agreement on what to do.

It is very difficult for residents and visitors to park any where near their home. I hope you will take in to consideration the what a struggle it is for new mums with baby's and elderly people to have to park a long walk away from their home.

This has become a big problem within our household

I agree it has become a massive pain and I'm often forced to park 5 mins walk away which has on one occasion prompted someone on that street to tape notes to my car saying this is not an overspil car park for highbury drive.

I fully support this petition. We also have two cars & have found over the last 7 years parking has become more & more restricted. I also contacted the council & was advised that Randalls Way is a private road and Surrey County Council had no jurisdiction over it. No one could tell me why the double lines were extended either, if they just got rid of the double lines then would resolve the problem, don't understand the need for them as it's not restricting access.

Its great to see someone putting the effort in to address this. Not sure what the solution is but to remove the yellow lines will help. It doesnt seem to matter what the time, all available space seems to be taken so not sure if its residents or opportunist commuters. Removing the double lines may just fill up the space with non residents. Maybe residents parking will control and work?

Agree that parking for visitors is pretty rubbish. I would say residents get 1 space onsite parking, so if you decide to have a 2nd car that's your problem. Plenty of space in Cleeve Road a short walk away. Randalls Way is a private road, nothing to do with Council or GCS. If it's that much of a problem get rid of the 2nd car or move. Simple

Thank you for putting together this petition. I agree with the comments raised. It seems strange that there is such limited parking for a flagship development and acres of unused parking space at night for the industrial offices behind the development.

The double yellows steadily encroaching down the road have been a problem for a while. When we first moved in, before they were extended the first time, parking wasn't a problem and there were no access issues up the road either. I don't think residential permits are required - simply removing the yellow lines and taking us back to where we were 4 or 5 years ago would be fine.

Frustrated to say the least!! No consultation was held to establish the impact of the Double Yellow Lines. It's embarrassing when your Guests keep getting £60.00 Parking Fines when they visit. No control over the many many commuters that take up the meagre parking available, sometimes for a week at a time. Who ever approved the painting of the Double Yellow Lines in the first instance, clearly had not done their homework!!

Allowing residents only parking in Randalls Way between 08h00-1800 would prevent the spaces in the road being taken by office workers or commuters using the road for free parking! Removal of some of the double yellow lines would also be welcome.

We have two cars. It's really frustrating when the time comes to park and there is no space...! Even more difficult when you have overnight guests/visitors.

Total agree, visitors, tradesmen etc have to use the Station Carpark!

It has been ludicrous for a long time, introduce a permit parking on the road, then all the people who park there cars for the station will bugger off.
