To: the Board and Management of Parkfairfax
WHEREAS: chemical pesticides are harmful to human health, animals, and the environment
WHEREAS: many organizations concerned with health and the environment advise avoiding pesticide use
WHEREAS: chemical pesticides are unnecessary because sustainable, effective, and less toxic alternatives are available
WHEREAS: communities and governments all over North America have successfully adopted policies restricting the use of pesticides
WHEREAS: Parkfairfax occupies 132 acres in the City of Alexandria, Virginia, and there are many people in the municipality who are impacted by its choices
WHEREAS: Parkfairfax is one of the largest condominium developments in the United States and should be taking a leading and proactive role in responsible environmental practice
We, the undersigned, petition Parkfairfax to enact a policy banning the non-essential and cosmetic use of pesticides on our property.

The conversations I have had with neighbors over the past week highlight how much we value the safety of our shared outdoor spaces. It is clear that moving toward sustainable maintenance practices is not just a preference but a necessity for the wellbeing of our community. I am currently organizing our documentation to present a formal request to the Board.
November 4, 2008
Seeing the growing momentum behind this request confirms that many of us share the same vision for a healthier environment in our community. This steady progress suggests that the desire for sustainable land management is deeply rooted among those who call Parkfairfax home.

Lets ensure that The board, especially Barbara Turpyn, who does not live in Parkfairfax, make a decision based on residents not investments.
