We are very privileged to have our kids in District 155. This district has great teachers and administration. As part of our responsibility for supporting our children and the teachers in District 155, we, as parents, seek to approach the school district in a supportive way with the goal of raising the bar on the English Department's current reading curriculum. Some of the books that our children are asked to read are classics, while others cannot be deemed as so. By signing this petition, you are joining other parents of District 155 in voicing your support for the bar to be raised on the literature that our high school kids are assigned to read. We will be asking the district to reevaluate the current required reading list and to adjust the curriculum to avoid books that have extensive foul language, sexual content and violence. While these are facts of life, and we are not seeking to shield our kids from these realities, we are seeking to increase the standard in this District by assigning literature that is thought provoking and uplifting, tackling many various topics that are relevant to today, but without the extra useless smut. We, as parents, understand that our teenagers are tomorrow's future and the time has come to expect more from them than "what everyone is doing" or "they get worse elsewhere". We need as many signatures as possible so the district can see how serious we are for raising the bar and finding cleaner, yet educational literature.
