Dear MCPS and Members of the School Board,
We, the undersigned parents and community members, hereby present this petition to advocate for the recognition and protection of parents' rights to opt out of books and lessons that promote LGBTQ ideas within the school curriculum of MCPS.
We acknowledge and appreciate the importance of creating an inclusive and supportive educational environment that fosters respect and acceptance for all students, regardless of their identity. We believe in promoting diversity, empathy, and understanding within our schools.
However, we firmly believe that parents should have the ultimate authority and responsibility to guide the moral and cultural education of their children. It is our deeply held belief that the introduction of sensitive topics should be a matter entrusted to parents, who are best positioned to determine the timing, content, and approach of such discussions within the context of their family values and beliefs.
Therefore, we request that the School Board implement a policy that grants parents the right to opt out their children from any books, curriculum materials, or lessons that include LGBTQ content. This opt-out provision would allow parents to exercise their fundamental rights to direct their children's education and upbringing while ensuring that alternative educational options are made available to those who choose to opt out.
We understand that diversity and inclusivity are important values to be taught in schools, and we do not advocate for any form of discrimination. Rather, we seek to strike a balance that respects the rights of all stakeholders involved, including parents, while maintaining a nurturing and academically enriching learning environment for all students.
In addition, we request that the School Board establish clear and transparent procedures that allow parents to review and provide feedback on curriculum materials related to LGBTQ content. This will foster open dialogue between the school district and parents, ensuring that concerns and perspectives from all stakeholders are considered and addressed.
We believe that by honoring parents' rights to opt out and promoting open communication and collaboration, we can create a harmonious educational environment that respects the diversity of our community and upholds the values of parental involvement.
We sincerely hope that the School Board will consider this petition and take our concerns into account as you make decisions regarding the curriculum and educational materials within MCPS. We trust in your commitment to fostering a school district that promotes academic excellence, inclusivity, and parental engagement.

The petition reached 10,000 signatures this afternoon. This total allows me to formally request a meeting with the School Board leadership to present our proposal for an opt-out policy. I am currently preparing the documentation to submit to the district office.

Although I do not have any problems with anyone apart of the LGBTQ community, I do not want my kids to exposed to that at a young age. I believe as children they shouldn’t be learning about such things and focus more on things like Math, English, and science.
As a parent we have to know and have the write to decide on be have of our children to opt out from this class . It is not acceptable to force our kids to take the class with out parent permission and it's against our kids freedom to practice there faith.
Me as a parent have to decide what and when my kids are going to learn. So respecting others interest, I want my kids to grow with Christian values and morals. So I respectfully request the concerned body has to grant my parental rights.
This doesn’t look right! implementing kids related matter in the school without prior consultation with the parents would create untrustworthiness between parents and the MCPS. Those who have given a green light for implementing have to be accountable.
We don't need the lesson ti give in the school because this is out of right and the children didn't know about this thing why we give them at school. School is to learn educational thing only this staff is out of the education. Thank you
As a parent want to know what my kids are learn
Our children our responsibility to teach our beliefs and not that of others to whom we may not agree or want our children to believe, the word children being the most important they don't need indoctrinated by lgbtq they need to have fun and learn maths and english and science only if they decide to be of the lgbtq community then thats better when they are older and there minds are adult not whilst they are children and don't even know if they wanna be a doctor, astronaut or even a princess or peach.

As member of the Ethiopian community in US, I strongly oppose the plan to prohibit parents not to opt out of lessons that promote LGBTQ contents. This is against the basic fundamental rights of citizens to decide what to do or not to do.
