I agree with change especially that if any other religious holiday landed on the 8th others would want it moved as well. I do not see the change as last minute as it is still a month in advance and students missing the dance are not obligated to miss it but are making the choice to miss it for other engagements. I am upset to see that there have only been comments against moving it aside from two when I am well aware my son and his friends have tried to speak their mind on the post yet the comment was not approved of and concealed.

It actually wasn't a few students but hundreds that voiced their opinion and signed the petition to agree or not agree. I understand some parents are upset over missing some time at a block party or missing a family event but this is something the majority decided on. I'm surprised students didn't vocalize what was going on in the school to their parents since it was a big deal on whether to change the date or not. When the schedule was initially made the day it landed on was completely overlooked and it was not done maliciously. A mistake that I'm sure the administration will not let happen again.

This vote was on Twitter all weekend. My son voted at lunch and he doesn't eat lunch there. Most of the kids want it changed because they want to be with their friends that can't go on the 8th. I don't see the big deal.

Who is supposed to be checking the calendar for such conflicts? This date has been on the calendar for months. That means 2 sets of administrators have had a chance to figure out the religious holiday conflict and it's just coming to light today.

The vote of changing the date of homecoming was poorly organized seeing as it was so sudden with no consultation of the parents. Now, as a result of this vote, some seniors and I are unable to attend our last homecoming dance. Dresses have already been bought, events have already been planned for October 15, etc. What we have a problem with is how sudden this was, seeing as we weren't aware of this change until last night while the original date was announced months ago.

I agree with this 100% because I am a marching band student, and I was very upset to find out that we wouldn't be playing at this years freshman orientation. I remember at my freshman orientation I kept telling my friends that it would be us in the marching band for the next year welcoming the freshman into a new beginning in life.

How exactly were we informed of this decision formally??? I found out through a Facebook Posting and NOT one on the Dearborn High School page. As a matter of fact this change is still NOT on the page. I didn't receive a call, email or anything to inform us of the change. To change the date now is not right everyone makes plans for their families schedules based on the calendar. And to have a FEW students vote on this for a school of over 2100 kids is NOT right. The original date needs to stand!
