Change the Canadian government's response to the Syrian refugee crisis

Aylan Kurdi. That's his name. You know him as the three-year-old Syrian boy whose lifeless body was pictured on newspaper front pages and social media around the world in the last 24 hours. He was trying to get to Europe after Canada rejected his family’s refugee application. His aunt, living in Vancouver, had filed all the paperwork to sponsor him and his brother Galip who also died in the same tragic event. As did their mother Rehan. His father Abdullah, survived, though I don't know how he'll survive this loss.
Chris Alexander, our immigration minister, defends Canada's refugee response, and blames the media for ignoring the crisis. Really? REALLY? I know that the Harper government has gotten away with a lot over the last 9 years, but I don't think their Teflon is strong enough to let this blood slide off their heartless, greedy hands.
It's time to get back to the Canada we all fought so hard to build, a Canada that would not close its doors to children in dire situations. It's time to get these selfish pricks out of our driver's seat.

No parent should have to decide to put their child on a boat in the open seas over living safely on land..

Canada showing leadership may inspire others to also show leadership and start to develop strategies to help these people caught in danger.

I am willing to vote on this issue. Make your policy clear and god help you if you don't stick to it. How many of us think about WWII, wonder how nations sat idly by? This situation may not be identical, but it is a chance to change the course of history. Let's not wait six years and 12 million people.

As a Canadian, I urge my government to keep its promises to refugees and Canadians alike. Open our doors so we can help, and send our resources overseas to make these war-infested countries dafe and livable again.
