PALMETTO BAY RESIDENTS & MORE LOCALS OPPOSE THE 87th AVE. BRIDGE & APPEAL TO COMMISSIONER DANIELLE COHEN HIGGINS AND THE ENTIRE TPO TO REJECT IT

We oppose the building of bridge will take on 87th Ave. This will harm both north and south communities living on around 87th Avenue. Increased crime, removing any safety the little ones and future of Palmetto Bay have, reducing home prices, but yet, insurance prices and property taxes will not reduce. It is a lose lose and anyone living south of that canal has been completely fooled by Cava to gain their votes and to get those developers to fill her pockets. If it is truly a good move foe the community why was it initially slipped in as an emergency act when everyone was working from home? People need to really question the motives as it only has a very small few people benefitting….

I strongly oppose the building of the 87th Ave bridge!

The bridge would be a disaster for our community. I implore you to help stop this bridge fron being built.

I do not agree with the 87th bridge

There is no benefit to having a bridge on 87th Ave. In fact adding a bridge will only complicate the issue more because it will have such a drastic impact on the neighborhood north of 164th, which is a quiet residential area where young children ride bikes and walk to Coral Reef Elementary School and Park. Adding a bridge there will put all those children at risk, making it not as safe, causing home prices to decline and more traffic at 87th and 144th. This negative impact on this part of Palmetto Bay will also cause a decline in prices in Cutler Bay. I have read numerous traffic studies, not one provides real data that supports this. All the data that is noted is general, meaning it is easy to say the data shows x, y, z, and leave out that it is the data for the whole city and not for that specific radius. I have also heard an argument stating fire rescue is not able to respond as quickly because of it. How would adding a bridge there change that, there is a fire rescue east and west of 87 both within 5.7 miles of each other. Additionally, why spend 3 million dollars to add a bridge when the street ends just 1.24 miles up. The traffic will then be diverted back on to US1 or cause back up now on 82nd. What a waste of money. Daniel Cohen Higgins and other commissioners should have looked at ways to increase new business in Cutler Bay by providing incentives for companies like Apple who just leased a 45,000 sf commercial space in Coral Gables. Having a business district south of Palmetto Bay is the only way to decrease traffic and is not hard to do. The reason there has been such a divide over the bridge is because individuals south of 164th feel it solves all there problems, while those north of 164th know how negatively it will impact and destroy there quiet neighborhood. My backyard is against 87th Ave inside the Palmetto Gardens community which I loved, but this bridge would really damage our quality of life.

Moved from Coral Gables to Palmetto Bay looking for a quieter neighborhood with better quality of life. This bridge will erase all of that, not to mention the depreciation my home would suffer instantly. My backyard is right against 87th ave, I have two young children, they would have to put up with horrible car noise constantly and pollution.

I feel that the addition of the bridge would only add to the traffic on the street I live on as well as 152 street just making things overall worse for our local neighborhood.

Constructing this bridge would increase traffic on the street we live in as people would use our neighborhood to avoid lights on 87th ave and increase overall traffic on 152 second street as well.

We live within 2 blocks of the proposed bridge site and strongly oppose it, as we have the many previous times it has been proposed and rejected. It will ruin our neighborhood by pushing traffic from other neighborhoods through ours without solving those other neighborhoods traffic problems. It will only “save” them 1 minute while costing over $1 million, depreciating our property values, and putting our children's safety at risk w extra traffic. No!
