Painting is much more than image on canvas. It is skills such as color, composition, idea, and application coming together to create work's which can shock and often delight. These skills are practiced and applied in a unique way when done through painting that is intuitive and visual. By studying painting, many individuals from other disciplines can obtain and better exercise these skills in their work.

MICA has a nationally recognized painting program, but doesn't offer a concentration for it (unlike many other majors). This petitions purpose is to gather signatures and support in order to begin a discussion with the painting department and its administrators about the possibility of a concentration for non-majors.
