Being paid for my field work would do literal wonders for the current state of my life and my fridge

It is more expensive to obtain an MSW at DU than it is to obtain an MBA, this can entirely be attributed to the fact that we pay for hourly credits for free labor. At the absolute *very least* we should be compensated for our work.

Fellow MSW Student at USC - Compensation is so important for the wellbeing of students and the equity of social work programs!

Recent grad here! Paying for our placements instead of being paid for them caused me to burn out repeatedly while at DU. It also caused me to take out more money in loans then I originally wanted to and now must pay pack. This is on top of the fact that we are paying thousands of dollars for placement credits, only to labor for free. Throughout my time at DU, I worked 2 jobs to help pay the rent, all while dedicating multiple days a week to unpaid labor. The stress I was under contributed to me wanting to quit the programs multiple times. By the time I was nearing graduation I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition, which I feel the stress of my unpaid placements contributed to. GSSW talks a big game about DEI, but perpetuates narratives of normalcy around social workers being burned out and under paid. There are many barriers to enter the field of social work, and unpaid placements is one of them!

I get paid for my placement and would love to see others get paid for theirs.

Compensation for work is a basic human right. By doing so, GSSW would enhance accessibility of social work as a profession

GSSW students contribute greatly to the broader Denver community through their field internships. They deserve to be compensated for the financial burden of working 900 unpaid hours. I fully support the convening of a task force so that GSSW admin can put forth effort into working on this issue with transparency and collaboration.

I agree wholeheartedly, and honestly, as bad as things are, I'd even settle for just not having to pay for the internship credits. That's the most mind-boggling part. Why am I paying to work for free?

Our labor is valuable, and we deserve to be compensated for it.
