They actually listened and finally scrapped the parking fees for the rink so we can actually get our gear inside without going broke. I am honestly still in shock because it feels so surreal to walk past those machines and just keep moving. Keep an eye on the boards just …
Oxford City Council are penalising Ice Rink users
Listed below are the Council run leisure facilities:
* Barton Pool
* Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre
* Blackbird Leys Pool
* Ferry Sports Centre
* Hinksey Pool
* Northway Centre
* Oxford Ice Rink
* Peers Sports Centre
* Temple Cowley Pool
* Horspath Athletics Track
All have free car parks except the Ice Rink (£2.90 min charge) and Ferry Pool (70p min charge). WHY IS THIS
*Ice Hockey players and all other users of the Rink facility are being unfairly discriminated against just because their chosen sport happens to be at the rink.*
CAR PARKING COSTS FOR ONE YEAR:
x 48 training sessions = £192-£278(depending on age).
x 18 games = £169
Total = £361-£447 PER YEAR
The City Council insists that users of the rink should use the Park and Ride facilities to avoid car park charges at the Oxpens Car Park.
Children as young as 8 are expected to carry heavy kit bags nearly 1/2 mile. The only Park & Ride services going anywhere near the Rink are these going to the train station:
Thornhill - rail station.
The service does not extend to the station after 8pm. No service at all to Oxford after 7.50pm.
Seacourt - rail station.
No service to Oxford after 7.50pm. No service from Oxford after 7.08PM on Sunday.
Your support is needed for this campaign to work - don't leave it to someone else. This affects ALL rink users.
Please sign the petition in support of our campaign to have the Council agree to support young people who are trying to do something positive with their time whilst also keeping fit and active.
Thankyou.
I honestly cannot believe how many people have piled onto this thing because it really makes the council look like they are living in a completely different city than the one we are actually trying to navigate with these huge hockey bags. Seeing this kind of energy makes me think we might actually get someone to watch those kids lugging their gear through the rain for once.

Ridiculous that ice skaters are singled out like this. Lugging hockey bags across town is not an option for kids.

FIX THIS. It makes no sense to charge us when other centres get free parking. Feels like a money grab pure and simple.

Enough is enough. Stop penalising families who just want to use the rink.

My son trains here every week and the cost is just getting out of hand. Why are we the only ones paying to park?

Total joke. Try carrying a full set of goalie pads for half a mile then tell me how fun park and ride is.

The bus times don't even match up with the training schedule at night. Completely useless service.
