OXFORD MILL PETITION REGARDING NORTH FULTON COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL SPLOST IV
We are residents of the Oxford Mill Subdivision in North Fulton County. Our current school zoning is for the schools of Dolvin Elementary, Autrey Mill Middle, and Johns Creek High. During the 2011 Bethany Bend High School redistricting planning stages, the Fulton County planners released information indicating that Autrey Mill Middle School was projected to be above capacity and, in addition, was not capable of being expanded. This data foreshadows that AMMS might be a candidate for new school district lines as the implementation of Splost IV is considered. During the planning stages of last year's redistricting, members of our community spent countless hours driving bus routes and compiling population projections from school directory data. A report summarizing the data was presented to the planning staff for consideration. This report concluded our neighborhood's present zoning was correct given the Fulton County school zoning primary factors of geographic proximity, capacity, and traffic patterns (as well as secondary factors). While we look forward to participating fully in the upcoming opportunities for public comment regarding the implementation of Splost IV, the signatories of this petition are taking this opportunity to share their very strong view that based on all the primary and secondary factors used by the planners and school board, the inescapable conclusion remains that regardless of the choice between either: (a) expanding those middle schools in North Fulton that can be expanded or (b) building a new middle school, any plans for changing the district lines should not alter the current zoning for the Oxford Mill subdivision.
