More Choice During Recess at Owen Marsh Elementary
As a parent of children attending Owen Marsh Elementary in Springfield, IL, I believe that recess should be a time for our kids to unwind and enjoy being outside. It's not just about taking a break from academic activities; it's about promoting physical health and social skills through sports and active play. Currently, the restrictions on what students can do during recess limit their ability to engage in games like basketball, soccer, football or other sports.
Research has shown that physical activity can improve cognitive skills and attitudes while enhancing concentration and behavior (American Academy of Pediatrics). By allowing more freedom during recess, we're not only giving our children the chance to be kids but also supporting their overall development.
It is crucial that we advocate for change in this area. Let us ensure that our children have the opportunity to fully enjoy their recess time by playing the sports they love and being active. This is not just about fun; it's about fostering an environment where our children can thrive both physically and mentally.
Please join me in urging the administration at Owen Marsh Elementary School to reconsider their current policies regarding recreational activities during recess. Sign this petition today!
