All these poor trainees with no chance of finding a good job. Corporate pathology labs will ensure that young trainees will never make much income.

Too Damn many pathologists already!!!

There has never been shortage in Pathologists. Always surprise since my day's of training 20 years ago.

Most applicants have 2-3 fellowships, old pathologists NEVER retire, they practice in their 80s and enjoy great salaries and NO need to take or retake the boards, HOW IS THIS FAIR?

The leadership of CAP is terrible!

We had 90+ applicant for 1 open position at our last recruiting opportunity. If this doesn't speak to oversupply, I must not understand its definition.

Job market, even with fellowship training, is dismal.

Pathology job market really is oversupplied you need only analyze the turnover and application rate in the private market to see this.

A big shortage is right around the bend, better train 25,000 more pathologists minimum.... Screw them!

Academia is out of touch with the real world and CAP only represent academia's viewpoint. However, what did we practicing pathologists do to prevent hyperinflation among our ranks? SO FAR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. We complained here and there but allowed that our profession completely lost its value. Current nightmare is the punishment for our inaction.

Academic pathologists behave like a religious cult in this respect. They know well that their residents cannot get jobs; however, they react by repeatedly issuing studies that claim there is a shortage of pathologists, while neglecting to acknowledge there is a shortage of positions. I agree. The problem has existed since at least the 1990s. Academia is out of touch with the real world. The vast majority of Pathology positions in the US are in community hospitals not academia. However, there is no voice for America's community patholgoists and CAP only represent academia's viewpoint.

Do not add pathology residency position. There is no support from CAP to prevent PUD labs in order to save and secure pathologists position. We don't want to struggle finding jobs.

dont increase the number of pathology residency position there is a major problem finding jobs for pathologist.too many pad labs , where they steal pathologist reveneu.

Totally agree with anonymous. I have been in practice since in practice since 1982 and repeatedly CAP cites the upcoming pathologist shortage due to retirements. I can't retire because I am an employee and have not had a raise in 10 years all the while I am working harder than ever. Cut the residency slots and the problem will go away and the federal government will save millions on not paying for residencies to nowhere
