Over the past couple of years, we have noticed a sudden increase in the cost of AP exams at Westborough High School. We have concerns that this sudden increase seems both unreasonable and unfair. In the 2011-2012 school year, our school charged us $110 for each AP Exam. The College Board states the fee is only $87. Our school charges us extra for hiring proctors, and getting supplies like pencils. But even taking these additional costs into account, paying an extra $23 dollars per exam seems highly overpriced and raises many questions and concerns. Also, $8 of the $87 paid to College Board goes back to the school for AP administrative costs. So where is all this extra money going? Last year, the price for each AP exam was only $92. Such a steep increase in fees seems irrational. For those taking more than one AP exam, which many students do, an extra $23 per exam quickly adds up to a lot of money. We, as students, deserve to get a refund of the surplus money, if there is any. But most of all, students and parents of the Westborough community at least deserve to know where all this extra money is going and why there was such a steep increase in AP Exam fees this year. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
