In our neighborhood sometimes there is only room for one car to pass due to snow loads. Some of these kids are forced to walk and it is a sketchy situation at best. In addition, the kids that can get a ride seem to be in cars that are driving too fast which further endangers the kids on foot. When my daughter was at Jeremy she was grazed by a bumper in a situation such as I describe above.

It makes no sense when there are extra seats on the bus to not let more students ride. I don't think there needs to be added bus stops, just allow the kids that are at the bus stops on the bus.

Summit county offers a free bus so that we can get people out of there cars and reduce pollution and traffic in our community. It's seems counterintuitive that the pcsd charges to ride any school bus any distance. Hey traffic engineers, summit county commissioners and pcsd board: are you listening? We need collaboration to solve our ever increasing traffic issues.

It seems this hardship ends up falling in families who can least afford it in many cases and the children with the least supervision end up walking in ill equipped areas.

The bus drives and stops right in front of my home everyday, but my kids are ineligible for PC bus service to Jeremy Ranch elementary.
Please fix this problem.

Folks, I need to correct a statement in the main text of the petition-- last fiscal year, Utah Dept of Education refunded all districts on an average of 68%. PCSD received about 30% in reimbursement since other districts had higher mileage for pick up (i.e. more rural districts received more money back due to distance between homes and school). I apologize for this and just assumed everyone gets about 68% and felt I needed to ask the question again since it bothered me that the answer was "districts were reimbursed on average of 68%."

This has really needed to happen for a long time… Lots of moms have younger kids that they have to wake up when they drive their siblings to school and it's just very disruptive for a lot of families. We all pay the taxes so we should all get the benefits

As a Jeremy Ranch resident, I encourage the PCSD to do everything it can to eliminate parents driving their children to school. Let's eliminate the traffic and associated pollution. It's unsafe for children to walk to school when there are no sidewalks, especially in winter!!

Requiring parents to drop their kids off at school just adds to the traffic and pollution problems in Summit County. 248 is a parking lot on weekday mornings because of this. We talk about trying to find ways to improve our traffic congestion in the future, especially in Park City. Adding school buses would be a step in the right direction.

This has been an ongoing complaint of ours since we moved to Daybreaker in 2004. Since then, we've paid $3,200 for our three children to ride the bus to JRES each year. It has been such a source of frustration, we are approximately .2 miles too close to the school so we are considered "ineligible". Conversations to PCSD transportation were useless, the only way to get our elementary kids to school was to pay the fee.

I cannot even fathom designating areas close to a school that does not contain sidewalks enroute and has the potential for high snow banks in winter months - as well as high speed snow plows racing around- as not "eligible" for school bus transportation! At the very least the fees charged should be utilized for increased transportation options. By the way - WHO decides what the money is used for?

We found this situation highly disturbing. School boards want to build incredible sports facilities - but they want to charge parents extra to get their children to school! Aside from those facts, we have tremendous traffic jams in Jeremy Ranch. No wonder young people aren't prepared for the workplace and have ill-place priorities. They have been watching irrational reasoning in primary and secondary schools. Finally, this is another potential tax on low income families - wherever they are in Summit County. Shame, shame, shame.

my kids will be going to JRES next year and the years after that. We live so close to the school, that taking the bus is a great option instead of driving them due to the traffic the many vehicles create from dropping their kids off and picking them up. Many people drove their kids to school because of having to pay for a bus. We should not have to pay for bus transportation. It has already been funded/paid for. Please reconfigure this system that makes no sense in order for us to get our children safely to school.
Walking our kids to school is not safe. The traffic layout, the lack of sidewalks, crosswalks and not snow plowing makes it unsafe and impossible for our children to walk or ride bikes to school. The proposal date for safer ways to get JRES is not for another 10-12 years of completion for safe roads to and from the school.
The solution is to get more kids on the bus route to help eliminate the traffic congestion that takes parents up to 20-30 minutes to get them from their hours only 2 miles away to their classroom.

Georgia, I very much agree and one of the main points I will attempt to make with the board members is not only is $200 per child outrageous but overall mass transit is ultimately safer for children, cleaner, and reduces congestion.

Please please make a change to this policy. The reduction in cars would not only benefit the traffic problems, but would be a more environmentally friendly and safer situation. The fee to ride the bus based on proximity should be abolished.
