We, the signers of this petition, were distraught and outraged on Jan. 12, 2012 to read the headline in The Star-Ledger “Firebomb attack on synagogue fuels fears”, and to hear of the terrible anti-Semitic crimes that have transpired in Bergen County over the past weeks.
We stand with people across New Jersey to re-confirm that people everywhere have the right to practice one’s faith/religion without fear of attack or disparagement.
We are committed to make sure these crimes will not happen again. We will be making our best efforts to work in all of our communities to combat bigotry and prejudice, and to speak out against these evils whenever they appear.
In the tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday we will celebrate on Monday, Jan 16, 2012, we will walk forward with all people of good will, toward the day when everyone can live in peace together.
The stories and reflections shared in the comments section reveal a deep shared desire to protect the safety of our neighbors. It is clear that the recent violence has caused a lasting ripple of concern across our community that requires our continued attention.
January 21, 2012
Seeing the momentum behind this call for unity reflects the true spirit of our neighborhood. It is reassuring to see so many people choosing to stand against intolerance rather than remaining silent. We are clearly defining the kind of community we intend to preserve for one another.

Disgusting behavior. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own neighborhood. My heart goes out to the families affected.
