I am a long-time resident of our city, and I am petitioning to take action against the crowds of people and unattended children in our public fountains. This summer Lexington has looked like a water park as people illegally cooled off in the fountains. Not only is it unsightly to the tourist and locals but dangerous and a liability to the city. They Fayette County website clearly states under park prohibitions: ‘’7.Bathe, wade in, or interfere with park fountains’’. With the rules, regulations, and restrictions NOT promulgated and posted at all recreation areas and no action being taken this could be a potential situation for health hazards, minor injuries, and death. With the world equestrian games rapidly approaching action must be taken. We are sacrificing the southern pride and class Kentucky has to offer for a ‘’cheap thrill’’. Are these tradeoffs that we really want to make? I am looking forward to your response.
