Fracking is guaranteed to pollute air and, if undertaken near a water bore hole, water too. Sites will lay waste large areas of countryside, not least in lorry parks for the fleets of up to 400 lorries per wellbringing in a range of toxic chemicals including formaldehyde, methanol, uranium and radium, and water and sand. At the end of the process up to 50% of the noxious mix is recovered, and ferried away to evaporation vats where the toxins leach into the air, causing respiratory and neurological problems. Companies demand indemnity against air and water regulations before they start.

Experimental drilling in the north has caused earth tremors; industrial scale drilling, including under our houses, will inevitably cause damage which neither companies nor insurers nor the government will want to pay for. By its very nature, fracking is impossible to regulate. This is an incrediblydestructive and pollutingprocess, alreadymade illegalin France, Bulgaria, Vermont and 250 communities across the US; where it is still in force, it is deeply unpopular.
