Outdoor dining has been the one silver lining on the horrible year that was 2020.
For years residents, and professional urban planners alike have been advocating for the reclamation of our car dominated neighbourhoods.
The hospitality industry, residents, diners and families are finally given an amazing urban solution and now you want to take that away for a few parking spots.
Please don't destroy this incredible opportunity and reduce your residents to second class citizens behind your glorious automobiles.
Who drives in Yarra anyway????

Extending outdoor dining at venues throughout Yarra has added so much to the streetscape, bringing much needed life back into our shopping and dining strips after an awful year. Regardless of COVID, the gain is undoubtedly greater than the lost parking spaces.. in fact I’d say the new outdoor dining areas have been one of the best things to come out of a sh*t year. Keep outdoor dining indefinitely.

In the face of a pandemic that could destroy the hospitality industry, it has never been more enjoyable, or more “Melbourne” to eat out than now. The buzz of being outdoors in the thick of it over a meal and drink with friends is unbeatable. Even just walking my dog past venues is a joy. The atmosphere is contagious. So many in Yarra opt to ride bikes or walk, anyway. Parking hasn’t been an issue. Let’s keep outdoor dining alive, and keep hospitality alive, too.

These outdoor dining spaces are essential community enhancements. We need more spaces for bodies and far fewer for automobiles! Make outdoor dining spaces permanent!

Who wouldn't want this and why?
I suggest the effort spent fighting against this be used for those people's therapy <3

These outdoor areas are important and overdue. They are insurance against the worst effect of restrictions, and are a great way to encourage locals back into venues.

Henry Sugar has been a stalwart of lockdown, pivoting to keep the Rathdowne Strip alive. The outdoor dining is a wonderful addition, where there is little else on offer. We would love to see this continue.

Responsible and local business that gives back to community and local producers. Asset the area.

The outdoor dining initiative is exactly what Rathdowne village needed. It’s bought a wonderful cosmopolitan vibe and a renewed buzz to the area. Losing that would be a huge loss to the community and the surrounding businesses
Absolutely madness to consider changing this!
